Straight black hair wont change!?

I have long, pretty thick, healthy black hair and no matter what I do it wont change. Up until I was 21 it was untreated, no dyes or chemicals. When i did decide it was time for a change I had to dye it twice to get any color change and even then it was only really visible in the sun. My hair refuses to curl. If i wash it and leave it in a bun or braids for about 3 days I get some bit of waves but thats about it. Ive used a ton of different curling irons and hair sprays when curling it but by the time im done with it where I started is straight (despite the sprays). Is my hair just stubborn?? Ive never gotten a perm, is that pretty much my only option now?

yea i would say perm if u want it curly, i wouldnt know how to color ur hair any light brown, but u can try lemon juice and sit out in the sun (too bad its winter) or maybe bleach, but they can be damaging to ur hair

There are certain hair types that are very resistant to both chemicals and styling tools and products. Dark hair is tricky because the only way you will get dramatic results with color is by lightening - you really can't go darker. The lightening process, however, is harsh on the hair and tends to result in unwanted tones. My professional recommendation is find a stylist who works well with your particular hair type. Ask other women with similar textures who cuts their hair. There is a lot a stylist can do with a haircut alone (working with your texture) to give you a change. Good luck!
